What is Village in the Shade?
Village in the Shade is a hand-painted single-player farming and life simulation from Nippon Ichi Software, published in the West by NIS America. Set in Kagatsu, a secluded Japanese mountain village, it combines seasonal crops, livestock, fishing, hunting, cooking, crafting, festivals, and villager relationships with a code of eight unsettling rules.
By day you restore a neglected home and farm and build a routine around the people of Kagatsu. After 11 PM, the standard experience opens the mystery path through rule-breaking, night exploration, ghosts, Magatama, Lost Books, and other supernatural encounters. Peaceful Life Mode, also called Village in the Sunshine, keeps the farming loop while closing off rule-breaking and the darker story route.
